Paul Kerfeld is running for Folsom City Council District 1 Representative. He has lived in the historic district of Folsom for 34 years. His platform is based on fiscal responsibility and transparency, public safety, traffic calming, and smart growth.
KEY ISSUES
TRAFFIC CALMING
Where has the foresight been when it comes to traffic in the historic district? For the historic district, this has been a problem for over two decades. The historic district's roads have been opened with little thought to the residents they affect. Residents are faced with speeding, the running of stop signs, failing to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, etc., and this creates dangerous situation for both pedestrians, bikes and cars. This situation affects one's daily quality of life. Problem traffic areas include Bidwell Street and Natoma Street and Lembi Drive to Sibley Street. Clearly marked crosswalks with warning lights or flashing beacon systems are needed on some crosswalks. For example, a simple crosswalk on Bidwell Street and Wool Street would help children from the Cobble Ridge neighborhood safely cross the street on their way to Sutter Middle School and Theodore Judah Elementary School.
PUBLIC SAFETY
I support public safety. Public safety and funding to support it needs to keep pace with the city's increased growth. We should not need a tax increase to do so.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
We need transparency with the city's finances for Folsom's residents. True and accurate information needs to be given, so we can generate common sense solutions. Not spending more than we have is logical. Our management of Folsom's finances should be treated like a household budget; do not spend more that you generate.
RESPONSIBLE
GROWTH
Growth should pay for itself and the infrastructure it will be using. Our city needs thoughtful and efficient infrastructure before housing construction. More thought needs to be given to traffic flow, environmental impact, and supporting infrastructure. This approach would ease a host of issues.
